Our Managing Partner, Mehmet Berisha, took part in a conference dedicated to copyright and authors’ rights, organized by the Organization for Collective Management of Copyright (KMRS), led by Ms. Kaltrina Mehmeti. The conference brought together legal professionals, rights holders, and industry stakeholders to discuss the current state and future direction of copyright protection in Kosovo.
Mr. Berisha was part of the discussion panel, participating in his capacity as a Board Member and legal counsel of the Organization, where he contributed valuable insights on the legal and practical dimensions of copyright enforcement.

Copyright is not merely a moral or artistic concept; it represents genuine economic value. Anyone who makes use of a copyrighted work, whether for an event, a broadcast, or any form of public use, has a legal obligation to provide fair compensation for that use. This principle lies at the heart of a functioning creative economy, ensuring that the work and contribution of authors are properly recognized and rewarded.
Unlocking Opportunities and Overcoming Challenges
Pursuant to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights, Kosovo already has functional mechanisms in place for the collection of fees from music users. These fees have been officially approved and serve to guarantee that authors, lyricists, producers, composers, publishers, and performers/singers receive their fair and rightful compensation. The establishment of these mechanisms marks an important step toward aligning Kosovo’s creative industry with international standards of intellectual property protection.
